CHEMC Environmental is currently doing EIA’s for a number of these fuel of the future projects, being launched by D1 Fuels, SA. However, the newly formed CHEMC Agri, is also involved in the planting and agricultural cultivation of Jatropha curcas plants in the Republic of Mozambique.
Currently South African legislative bodies are extremely reluctant to approve any such projects, this will however change in the near future due to the overwhelming positive impacts that such an industry can bring along. This being stated with specific regard to alleviating poverty and the creation of jobs, sustainable business and/or upcoming BEE entrepreneurs.
Although Bio-Diesel can be made of any plant or seed that contains some form of oil, i.e, sunflower or soja, the motivation should always be that no food crop be used for manufacturing of diesel. The D1 and CHEMC Agri proposed method would be;
- Growing Jatropha curcas.
- The harvesting of the seed.
- The crushing and expelling of the seed.
- The manufacturing of the bio-diesel from the expelled Jatropha oil.
- Storage and blending of bio-diesel with regular diesel as per regulation.
